How to Audit Your Instagram Reels in 4 Questions (The Authority Signal Test Most Women Skip)

May 05, 20264 min read

You've watched the strategy videos. Read the templates. Saved the swipe files.

And your reels still aren't converting.

Here's the thing nobody tells you: most "content audits" are useless because they audit the wrong layer.

They check your hook. Your editing. Your trending audio. Your post times.

What they DON'T check is the layer underneath all of that — the layer that decides whether someone watching your content trusts you enough to take action.

That underlying layer has a name. I call it your Authority Signal™ — and it's the difference between content that gets liked and content that gets bought from.

Below is the exact 4-question audit I run with women inside Brand Me On Demand™ every week. It's the audit you can run on yourself, today, in under 20 minutes.

Before you start: the rule

Don't audit content you posted six months ago. Audit your most recent three Reels. The current ones. The ones you posted this week.

Why? Because your signal evolves. The version of you posting today is the version your audience is reading. That's the audit that matters.

Open them up. Watch them as if you're a stranger seeing them for the first time.

Now run the four questions.

Question #1: Authority Signal — do I read as a leader or a content creator?

This is the most important question.

A content creator delivers information. They teach. They tell. They explain.

A leader declares. They have a position. They take a stance. They expect to be followed, not agreed with.

Watch your last three Reels and ask: which voice am I using?

If you keep saying things like "here are 5 tips for…" or "the way I like to…" — you're in content creator energy.

If you say things like "this is the only way I do this" or "if you're still doing X, stop" — you're in leader energy.

Buyers buy from leaders. Followers follow content creators.

Question #2: Clarity — is my positioning obvious or diluted?

In the first 5 seconds of your Reel, can a stranger tell:

WHO you help?
WHAT specific problem you solve?
WHY you're the woman to solve it?

If the answer is "sort of," your positioning is diluted.

Most women dilute their positioning out of fear — fear that being too specific will shrink their audience.

So they say things like "I help women in business" instead of:

"I help direct sellers turn their reels into a $5K/month business without going viral."

The first one feels safe. The second one converts.

Diluted positioning is the #1 reason content with great hooks still doesn't sell.

Question #3: Decision Energy — does this content move someone toward buying, or just engaging?

After someone watches your Reel — what's the most likely action they'd take?

Low decision energy:

  • Like

  • Save

  • Comment “🔥🔥🔥”

  • Scroll

High decision energy:

  • DM you

  • Click your link

  • Ask about your offer

  • Buy

Most content is built for engagement—not decisions.

Decision energy is built INTO the content.

It’s the difference between:
“Hope this helps!”
vs
“If you’re ready, the door is open.”

Question #4: Perception — what would a high-level buyer assume about me?

Imagine someone ready to spend $5,000.

They land on your page. Watch your last three Reels.

What do they assume?

  • Expert or beginner?

  • Booked out or available?

  • Premium or cheap?

  • Leader or content creator?

Their assumption = your Authority Signal.

And it happens before they ever click your link.

What to do with what you find

If this made you uncomfortable—good.

That means you found the leak.

This isn’t a one-time audit. It’s weekly.

Because your signal evolves every time you post.

Most women skip this.

They optimize hooks.
Chase trends.
Post and pray.

The ones who win?

They audit the signal.

Constantly.
